The Elven Padawan: From Erebor to Echo Base – #19 – Updates on Animation

It’s time to discuss all the amazing news coming from Lucasfilm animation as only two fangirls can! Please welcome Grace back to the studio as she and Shay talk about everyone’s favorite cartoons in a galaxy far, far away!

On this episode, we talk about the upcoming STAR WAR: RESISTANCE show, as well as the return of THE CLONE WARS!!
We go over the animation style of Resistance and the reaction it’s gained so far, as well as our thoughts on the whole thing, including Dave Filoni’s involvement and how it measures up to the history of Star Wars animation. We break down the teaser trailer in slo-mo and get incredibly confused regarding the names of most of the characters.
Then we cover that *amazing* news about The Clone Wars, and how that show returning might be dictating some things concerning Resistance.

Apologies for some of the confusion about characters names and such; since this episode was recorded before the latest information dropped, we were pretty much winging it!

Shownotes:

  • New since recording: “Meet Team Fireball” featurette:

(this video confirms the names of several of the characters we were unsure of, as well as their occupations)

  • StarWars.com’s article accompanying first teaser: Star Wars Resistance Trailer Revealed
  • Star Wars Resistance on DisneyWiki (scroll down to find character cards with information and names on main characters) (thanks to Kitten for the heads-up on this info!)
  • So right now, Resistance is a bit different, in that I’m not on that day-to-day. I created and set it in motion, but I’ve given that to other people to raise up, people that I’ve worked with a long time, who I think deserve the opportunity to tell stories and I think it’s exciting, and I give them my thoughts and notes – I was just doing that this morning, like George would give me. So that’s fun.“―Dave Filoni on his involvement with the series[src] – source: Wookieepedia

  • Bloodline-tie in short story Shay mentioned on StarWars.com: Scorched (there is some mild language)

Music/Sound effects:

  1. The world needs more fans like you two! I love how you can defend your opinions, but you’re open to hearing others’ as well, even if you end up disagreeing with said other opinion. 🙂

Great episode! Resistance does definitely look different from the previous Star Wars animated shows, and the story concept is really cool. But I’d need a little more information about the characters before I’m really hooked (or not)! All the same, I’ll give it a chance.

And wow, good point about the difference between the films and the TV shows! The shows definitely do provide the little moments and victories that make the characters who they are and that add up to the pivotal events in the movies.

I really enjoyed this podcast, and I’m looking forward to the next one!
